Perth, 12 December 2017: Opal Aged Care (Opal) will today host an official sod turn ceremony to mark the beginning of construction of its Opal Alfred Cove specialist aged care facility, further cementing Opal’s commitment to the South West Perth region.
The $36 million, 120-bed specialist residential aged care facility in Alfred Cove will sit alongside three existing Opal facilities in Melville, Applecross and Murdoch.
The sod will be turned by Mayor of the City of Melville Russell Aubrey, who believes the new home will provide much needed specialist aged care services to the local community.
“Opal Alfred Cove is an investment in a better future for our ageing community. The population of Melville is set to double by 2036, which will inevitably mean we will need increased services and specialist support, particularly in health services and quality aged care. In addition to providing access to specialist care, I also look forward to the positive impact this development will have on the local economy – driving job creation from the initial development and building phase, through to when the home opens,” said Mayor Aubrey.
Daymon Joseph, General Manager of Opal Western Australia, spoke of the need for greater access to specialist aged care services for the Melville community.
“Turning the sod at Alfred Cove today is another important milestone for Opal and the local community we serve. With three homes in the region and plans for further expansion, we are proud to continue supporting Perth’s aging population by providing much needed access to high quality care.
“With a current under-supply of aged care beds in the Melville region, and the demand for residential aged care set to increase, the 120- bed Opal Alfred Cove specialist aged care facility is central to our continued growth in the region and addresses a very real community need,” said Mr Joseph
Once complete, Opal Alfred Cove will provide high quality, affordable care offering residents a choice of rooms including singles with en-suites and companion rooms, and a dedicated memory support wing, providing specialist care and support for people living with dementia. The home will be conveniently positioned 13 kilometres south west of the Perth City Centre, on the Kitchener Road and Cottrill Street intersection.
