At Western Port Bay Care Community we encourage our residents to live a life of meaning and purpose. Situated on the picturesque Mornington Peninsula, south-east of Melbourne, our Care Community is just a few minutes from the cafes and amenities of Tyabb. We offer beautiful living spaces in a modern yet homely environment with personalised care delivered by our experienced team. Our light-filled courtyards and spacious lounge areas are designed for indoor and outdoor living, ideal for spending time with loved ones and enjoying the tranquil surroundings.

Care at Western Port Bay

We offer a relaxing environment with the compassionate and personalised care of 24/7 registered nurses. Our experienced leadership work alongside a capable and confident team to offer residential aged care, palliative care, dementia care and respite care. Allied health professionals also visit regularly. Our memory care neighbourhood provides an environment custom-designed to support the individual needs of residents who are living with dementia. We recognise that understanding the big and the little details about how you like to live each day is important to us – so that we can help you feel at home, have the right support and live your best life in our care.

When the sun’s out our resident green thumbs enjoy tending our kitchen garden and potted plants. Others like to be creative, spending time on art projects, making craft or listening to music. The ‘Memory Support Unit’ (Seagull) is one of the best Dementia–Specific Units you can find. My husband was a resident in Seagull from September 2022 to December 2024. Over the time, I have witnessed an evolving Memory Support Unit into a Unit of Excellence with increasing interaction, engagement, wellbeing and lifestyle activities. This is an ongoing process giving the residents the best quality of life that can be achieved. The Care Manager and Clinical Nurse Educator ensure the best nursing care practices are in place and staff are continually updated with new practices and skills. Many innovative ideas and proven ways of caring for those with Dementia have been implemented and this continues as an ongoing with a dedicated Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coordinator who is continually finding new ways and ideas to improve each resident’s quality of life. Lifestyle Activities are run 7 days per week offering a large variety of group & individual fun activities & purpose orientated craft, concerts and outings. Jigsaws, puzzles, etc are always available. Craft activities are organised with a purpose…items made can be used in their rooms, used as gifts for family or sold at the annual Market Stall which Opal runs so as the Market comes to the Residents. Each resident is treated as an individual with love and respect. Plans are created to meet a resident’s specific needs at the time and updated as needs change. If there is challenging behaviour, they will seek outside support for the resident and staff. Families are important and regarded as part of the Seagull family. Family members are well supported through all stages of the dementia journey from the first time they step inside the Seagull Unit. Staff are always ready and willing to support the family in whatever way they can. This can be with one-on-one chats, debrief sessions and meetings with members of the Opal Leadership Team. In response to family members’ initiative re the possibility of setting up a Support Group for family members from Seagull Unit, this was received with very positive encouragement and has been meeting regularly for 18 months. This has bonded families who are experiencing life with a loved one in the Memory Support Unit. A very important Support Network. When my husband passed away on Christmas Eve, he was surrounded by an excellent Care Team who supported him and our family during his final hours in a loving and respectful way while demonstrating their exemplary professionalism in an emotional situation for the family and all staff as he had been a very loved member of the Seagull family for a long time.

Exemplary Care with extensive resident and family support networks. Whether entering the front door or along corridors, one is greeted by name and a friendly smile by all staff who know each resident / family by name. Each resident is treated as an important part of the whole community and is treated with love and respect. Families are welcomed and listened to. The ‘Hands-on’ General Manager has an ‘open door’ and listens to any concerns followed by a quick response. Nothing is trivial. Care Team show professionalism and excellence with a friendly smile and are kept abreast of new methods by Clinical Educator. Scheduled wellbeing and lifestyle activities 7 days per week supplemented with several Pop-up Activity Stations. Residents are encouraged to pursue interests including gardening, craft, games, etc. Resident Food Committee ensure a seasonally varied menu with alternatives available. Highly recommend that you consider this as your new home.

I have worked within western Port Bay Care community as a student nurse for two weeks, in such short time I have seen outstanding work from nurses and PCA staff members, it is truly remarkable how they go above and beyond for each resident. Western port bay care community is not only an aged care but a home to all residents, considering special needs and care. I’ve had a beautiful experience, and would forever be grateful.

I am an RN occasionally working at this facility with the students. It is honestly the best Care Facility I’ve ever worked at. Management, Nurses and other Team members are genuinely dedicated and compassionate, this is not ‘just a job’ to them. The level of care is outstanding, facility is excellent and food is phenomenal. I wouldn’t hesitate before placing a loved one in this home.

My experience of Westernport bay care community has been exceptional. Since my wife moved into permenant care due to dementia over 12 Months ago I have been impressed by the care team and the professional conduct of all who work there. The well being staff are all very considerate of the needs of the residents and afford such activities that involve everyone in some way to the inclusion of all residents needs. The medical team are exemplary. I would unhesitatingly recommend Westernport bay care community.

I don’t recommend this place at all, my grandma was in their care for 7 weeks after she suffered a severe stroke, they did not shower her once, left her in her bed the whole time, she ended up with huge bed sores .. she was also in a dark room and not once taken out of the room ! It was so depressing visiting her as I left in tears all the time.
