Annual Dog Show at Mornington Bay
27th February 2020 | 1 minuteKnown as the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts is an annual event in the UK, renowned for the Best in Show competition and the crowd favourite, Agility Trials. It would be fair to say that Mornington Bay’s annual dog show, although loved by everyone who attends, is not quite Crufts!
Many of the participants would say that’s what makes it so much fun. Lifestyle Coordinator, Edie says, “the dogs aren’t trained and it makes it really funny.” She goes on to say, “Their antics as they’re put through their paces over various obstacles make everyone laugh uproariously. Sometimes it’s clear that the owners may need more training than the dogs!”
Now in its third year, the annual show has become something that the local Mornington Peninsula community really looks forward to. Entries for the show have steadily increased each year and Edie says she now has people contacting her to ensure that they’re included with their four-legged friends for the following year.
The entrants include dogs owned by residents, team members and the wider community with the judging panel is made up of By the Bay residents. One of our newer resident, Walter was thrilled to be part of the judging panel for last year’s show and had a great deal of fun in the process. He said, “The dogs are drawn from family, friends and the local community and as none of them are trained, the agility course was quite the comedy of errors. They are all shapes and sizes and it really is a case of all creatures great and small.”
Edie loves the way the dog show gets everyone involved. The whole care community comes together to plan and organise the event and welcome families and visitors for a wonderful afternoon of laughter and friendship. While it may be not quite Crufts, it is a wonderful way to build and strengthen community connections for our residents. The By the Bay dog show is definitely a blue ribbon winner.
If you and your dog are interested in getting involved in the 2021 Dog show please head over to the Mornington Bay page and fill in an enquiry form.
