Opal HealthCare welcomes pay rise for aged care workers
4th May 2023 | 2 minsOpal HealthCare welcomes the Albanese Government’s announcement today to give a pay increase to more than 250,000 people who work in aged care.
The increase affects award wages for those who provide direct care.
“We applaud the government for keeping its election promise,” said Opal HealthCare CEO, Rachel Argaman.
“Opal HealthCare pledged to pass on the full increase to our eligible team members before today’s announcement was made and we remain committed to doing so.
“Our team is dedicated to providing high-quality care and supporting our residents to live with dignity, respect, and a sense of purpose.
“The majority of Opal HealthCare team are paid above award wages in order to attract and retain the best people, and this increase to the award component will further recognise their service and contribution.
“We look forward to seeing the granularity of the funding for the wage increase as soon as possible.
“Nevertheless, this is a significant step forward for the sector and for the thousands of people who provide vital services to support the health and wellbeing of older Australians, who are among the most vulnerable people in Australia.”
