Applecross Shore Care Community officially opens
6th December 2022 | 3 min readWe recently celebrated the official opening of Applecross Shore Care Community with a High Tea House warming for our residents, their loved ones as well as our extended community.
Applecross Shore Care Community is Opal HealthCare’s newest flagship Care Community in Western Australia and joins its sister Care Communities in the South Perth area – Alfred Cove, Melville Parkside, Murdoch Gardens and Treeby Parklands – in providing high quality care for the people and future generations of South Perth. Originally opened over 35 years ago, the redevelopment process started in 2018 to create a brand new state-of-the-art flagship Care Community that will continue to serve the region for many more decades to come. The new Care Community features 132 residential places, modern living spaces and state of the art facilities for new and existing residents.
The event was attended by Ms Kim Elizabeth Giddens MLA Member for Bateman, our partners in care and local dignitaries. Ms Kim Giddens MLA, spoke about the importance of this Care Community as a response to the increasing needs of the ageing community in Western Australia and highlighted the upcoming career opportunities, as this new Care Community will employ over 180 people to deliver care for our elders.
The event was held in our artisan coffee shop ‘Café Jetty’ which opens out onto the landscaped courtyard – where our residents celebrated with an exquisite High Tea including delicious sweets and savoury favourites such as scones, petit-fours, cakes and many mimosas.
Ms Yolande Nealon, Director People and Culture at Opal Healthcare welcomed everyone to the event and invited Ms Kim Elizabeth Giddens MLA, Ms Sandra Light, General Manager of Applecross Care Community, and some of our first residents Mrs Doris and Mr Peter Thobaven to officially open the Care Community by unveiling a ceremonial plaque.
This Care Community is truly more than a home – it is the foundation upon which Applecross Shore will continue to grow and thrive, with love, purpose and belonging at the heart of our care.
